Disequilibrium syndrome is caused by a rapid reduction in urea, sodium, and other solutes from the blood. This can lead to cerebral edema and increased intracranial pressure (ICP). Signs and symptoms include a headache, nausea, restlessness, vomiting, confusion, twitching, and seizures.
