The thrombosis in superficial thrombophlebitis can extend into the deep venous system causing DVT. Estrogen & Myocardial infarction are risk factors for DVT and thromboembolism Estrogen leads to a hypercoagulable state. Myocardial infarction causes bed rest leading to stasis.
