Recently, concerns have been raised and much debate is done over the safety of thiomersal in vaccines. It is said that it being mercury based compound it can cause neurotoxicity. It is being related to autism in children. However The World Health Organization's Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) has concluded in November 2002 that there is no evidence of toxicity in infants, children or adults exposed to thiomersal in vaccines. Still thiomersal is being replaced or reduced in vaccines.
