In 21-hydroxylase deficiency, excessive androgenic activity causes signs of masculinization in females, ranging from clitoral hyperophy and pseudohermaphroditism in infants (ambiguous genitalia) to oligomenorrhea, hirsutism, and acne in postpubeal females.
