The seeds in the given picture are of 'kuchila' or 'Nux vomica' the seeds are highly fatal. Even one crushed seed is fatal. It contains 3 active toxins Principle :- strychnine which (acts on anterior HORN cells of spinal cord) inhibits glycine--> preventing the inhibitory effects of glycine on the post synaptic neuron Neurotransmitter nux vomica poisoning resembles 'tetanus' since it causes muscle convulsion. 3 features are seen:- 1. Opisthotonus (most common) 2. Pleurosthotonus 3. Emprosthotonus After death ' postmoem caloricity' phenomenon occurs i.e initially after death, the patient remains warm for few hours.
