Description: Oculomotor nerve innervates levator palpebrae superioris, complete lesion of this nerve produces closure of affected eye due to paralysis of this muscle. Oculomotor nerve innervates all the extraocular muscles of the eye except lateral rectus and superior oblique. Oculomotor nerve lesion result in lateral detion of the eye due to unopposed action of lateral rectus. Patients develop diplopia in all directions of gaze except for lateral gaze towards the side of involvement. Pupillary function may be normal or impaired.
