Description: Patients with thalassemia minor or thalassemia trait have a modest anemia with hematocrit between 28% and 40%. The peripheral blood smear is mildly abnormal, with hypochromia, microcytosis, and target cells. In contrast to -thalassemia, basophilic stippling is present.
