Quinke's disease, also known as isolated uvular angioedema, is a relatively rare presentation of angioedema of the upper airway.
Several causes of uvular edema have been described : -
Hereditary angioedema
Infectious causes (e.g., peritonsillar absceess, TB etc.)
Trauma :- Foreign body, Surgery, ET intubation
Tumor (Squamous carcinoma)
Inhalation or ingested allergen
Blood diseases (acute leukemia, agranulocytosis)
Symptoms include Trickling or irritating sensation in the throat together with sensation of gaging.
Oedema usually settles down spontaneously. IV hydrocortisone may helpful.
