Gross osseous changes in the condyles may be identified, such as asymmetries,  extensive erosions, large osteophytes, tumors, or fractures. The panoramic projection also provides a means of comparing left and right sides of the mandible and can reveal odontogenic diseases and other disorders that may be the source of TMJ symptoms.
