Prolonged use of topical steroids causes

Correct Answer: Open angle glaucoma
Description: Prolonged usage of topical steroids causes open-angle glaucoma. Posterior subcapsular cataracts are induced by long-term systemic steroids. Patients develop open-angle glaucoma paicularly if predisposed. Precise mechanism is unknown but due to decreased aqueous outflow. Topical coicosteroids induce a rise in IOP faster than systemic steroids. Topical coicosteroids predispose to cataract, glaucoma and secondary surface infections. Ref Harrison 20th edition pg 1234
