Description: MORPHOLOGIC FEATURES. The pathologic features are common to both HBV and HCV infection and include the following lesions 1.Piecemeal necrosis. Piecemeal necrosis is defined as peripoal destruction of hepatocytes at the limiting plate (piecemeal = piece by piece). Its features in chronic hepatitis are as under: i)Necrosed hepatocytes at the limiting plate in peripoal zone. ii)Interface hepatitis due to expanded poal tract by infiltration of lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages. iii)Expanded poal tracts are often associated with proliferating bile ductules as a response to liver cell injury. 2.Poal tract lesions.
