Description: Relapse :- The resting forms are called hypnozoites. It is feature seen in P.vivax and P.ovale. From time to time, some are activated to become schizonts and release merozoites, which go on infecting RBCs producing clinical relapse. Recrudescence:- In Plasmodium falciparum and P. malariae, initial tissue phase disappears completely, and no hypnozoites are found. However ,small numbers of erythrocytic parasites persist in the blood stream and in due course of time, they multiply to reach significant numbers resulting in clinical disease.
