Poor perfusion/shock DIC, Positive results of blood cultures.Plain abdominal X-ray - pneumatosis intestinalis {air in the bowel wall) confirm the clinical suspicion of NEC and is diagnostic, Portal venous gas is a sign of severe disease and pneumoperitoneum indicates a perforation.
