Description: HELLP syndrome is a form of severe preeclampsia. HELLP develops in 10-20% of women with preeclampsia/eclampsia. Signs and symptoms include abdominal pain, commonly occurring in the right upper quadrant or epigastrium, nausea, vomiting, and elevated blood pressure. Proteinuria less commonly accompanies symptoms. HELLP is an indication for delivery to avoid hepatic complications, such as rupture, infarct, and hemorrhage.
