Keshan disease is an endemic cardiomyopathy prevalent in China where selenium contents in crops and and soil are extremely low. Copper deficiency results in anemia, neutropenia, osteoporosis, neurologic abnormalities caused by demyelination and faulty synthesis of neurotransmitters.
