Description: Thioamide drugs block the synthesis of thyroid hormones and are safe in children. If hypothyroidism develops, stopping the drug can reverse it. Despite adequate treatment, relapse is seen in 40-60% of the cases. Worsening of ophthalmopathy has been reported with radioactive iodine but not with thioamides.
