Description: Basically, this reflex is initiated by stretch receptors, called either baroreceptors or pressoreceptors, located at specific points in the walls of several large systemic aeries. Page: 219 When BP increases ,it stimulates baroreceptors in carotid Sinus and aoic arch that increases the nerve traffic in CN IX and X. This leads to excitation of the NTS in the medulla---- inhibits vasomotor centre interneurons. ---- decreases sympathetic output and causes vasodilatation, bradycardia,decrease in cardiac output and fall in BP. Excitation of NTS also directly inhibits hea by stimulating vagus nerve .
