Description: Ans. is 'c' i.e., Defines any factory that employs 10 or more workers where power is not used o According to older edition of Park (19th and older), the answer of this question was 'c', because previously the act defined factory as an establishment employing :- i) 10 or more worker where power is used. ii) 20 or more worker where power is not used. o But, now the definition of factory includes all establishments employing 10 or more persons, whether power is used or not. o So, now the answer is none (for this question). FACTORIES ACT The first Indian Factories act dates as for back as 1881. o The act was revised and amended several times, the lates being the factories (Amendment) act, 1987. o The standards laid down by the factories Act - 1.Scope The act defines factory as an establishment employing - 10 or more worker whether power is used or not. 2. Health, safety & welfare o Following standards are recommended A minimum 4500 Cu ft ofspace for each worker (not taking into account space more than 14 feet above the group level). ii) For factories installed before the 1948 Act, a minimum of 350 Cu ft of space per worker iii) A safety officer in every factory where in 1000 or workers are employed iv) A welfare officer in every factoty where in 500 or more workers are employed. v) A canteen where in more than 250 or more workers are employed. vi) Creches where in more than 30 women workers are employed. 3. Employment of young persons a Standards are - i) Children less than 14 years have been restricted from employment in factories. ii) Adolescents (15-18 years) need to he duly ceified by ceifying surgeons regarding their fitness for work. iii) Adolescent employee is allowed to work only between 6 AM to 7 PM 4. Standards of work Standards arc - i) A maximum of 4 hours per week, not exceeding 9 hours per day with rest for at least 1/2 hours after 5 hours of continuous work. ii) For adolescent -4 4'/: hours per day iii) The total number of hours of work in a week including oveime shall not exceed 60. 5. Leave with wages Standards are (besides weekly holidays) - i) Leave with wages after 12 months continuous service ? a) One day for every 20 days of work in adult b) One day for every 15 days of work in children c) The leave can be accumulated upto 30 days in case of adults and 40 days in case of children.
