Description: Only ceain strains of group A Beta-hemolytic streptococci are nephritogenic, more than 90% of cases been traced to types 12,4 & 1, which can be identified by typing of M protein of cell wall. Electron microscopy shows deposited immune complexes arrayed as subendothelial, intramembranous, or most often, subepithelial 'humps' nestled against the GBM.
