An acoustic schwannoma or acoustic neuroma is an intracranial schwannoma located within the internal auditory canal originating from the vestibular poion of the acoustic nerve. Intraspinal schwannomas are found as intradural tumors in the thoracic region. In the peripheral nerves, they occur as a solitary nodule on any sheathed sensory, motor, or autonomic nerve.
