Description: Streptococci are catalase negative and beta hemolytic. Group A beta hemolytic streptococci can be differentiated from other beta hemolytic streptococci by bacitracin sensitivity. Streptococcus pyogenes is bacitracin sensitive whereas streptococcus agalactiae is bacitracin resistant. Both are beta hemolytic.
