Description: Asymptomatic bacteriuria is used when a bacterial count of the same species over 10^5/ml in midstream clean catch specimen of urine on two occasions in women or on a single occasion in men is detected without symptoms of urinary infections. E.coli is the offending organism in over 90% cases. Other pathogens are Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus. Asymptomatic bacteriuria occurs in a small number of healthy people.
