However, the nitrogenous bases, which are adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine, pair up so that cytosine only pairs with guanine and adenine links up with thymine. There are three hydrogen bonds between guanine and cytosine, while adenine and thymine have two hydrogen bonds.
