Description: B i.e. Response prevention - Behaviour therapy (BT) & cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) used to treat OCD include thought stopping (CBT), response prevention, systemic desensitization and modeling (Ahuja- 98) Exposure and response prevention (better called resonse prevention) is the behavioral therapy of choice in OCDQ. It is impoant to understand that it is the response prevention tht makes it more effective than other exposure procedures such as systemic desensitization, invivo exposure, imaginal exposure and interoceptive exposure. Interoceptive exposure (IE) induce feared physiological sensations eg nausea, tachycardia, dyspnea = shoness of breath, dizziness, tingling etc under controlled conditions eg by hyperventilation, breathing through straw or spinning in a chair like maneuvers, with a goal to an activity that produces similar sensations to the one that patients find unduly distressing & attempt to avoid. IE is most commonly used in treatment of panic disorder & phobias.
